One of my kids works at a chain fast food restaurant after school. I went to pick them up yesterday and we sat down together while they ate their meal after their shift ended. What I noticed after they were finished is how much waste is generated from one small order and how much that would compound over hundreds of orders per day. The drink cup, the top, the straw, and the straw wrapper. The box from the fries and the plastic cups from the ketchup. The box from the entree, the plastic cups from the sauces, the foil from the tops of the sauces, the paper napkins, and the paper tray liner from the tray. All new when we received it and all went directly into the trash after the meal. Multiply that hundreds of times over per day at that single location and that amounts to quite a bit of waste generated just from that one restaurant. I don’t have the proper solution, perhaps dedicated recycling receptacles in the location or reusable utensils and plates like traditional restaurants, but throwing away all these single use items after each meal seems like such a………waste.
