It was an excellent day today, got L off to work early this morning and then went for a shorter run which resulted in my fastest 5K time so far. I wanted to take it easy today since my first race is tomorrow and I didn’t want to overextend myself beforehand. I plan on doing the same tomorrow, take a short warm up run in the morning before running the 5K in the afternoon. If I can get around the same time I did today then that would put me in a good place. Not the best, but won’t be the worst. I say worst, but just completing it would be a goal for some people. In fact, five months ago that would have been a hefty challenge for me. I could only do short brief running intervals in my walks. I didn’t start out with the goal of running, but as I walked farther each day, changed what I ate, and became more active during the day I could see how running would be beneficial. I definitely learned some things as I progressed, like how having old worn out shoes will ruin your knees if you try to run in them. After slowly working on it for a few months, I have been able to run a 10K each weekend morning and some shorter runs during the week. I think running in the West Ashley Park disc golf course has help build strength and stamina since there are many different obstructions along the way and many different ground conditions that provide resistance. I feel I have a plan set up for tomorrow, but we all know how plans go. I think it was Mike Tyson who said “Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face”.
